Rankin creates giant ‘Plastic Monster’ to highlight plastic pollution crisis
Surfrider Foundation has partnered with Rankin to create a towering ‘plastic monster’ serving as a stark reminder of the dangers of unrecyclable plastics to the world’s coastlines.
The huge plastic figure, created by seamstress Charlie Watkins, is set to appear on beaches and social media feeds after being photographed by Rankin himself.
Rankin said “the fight against ocean pollution is urgent and the Plastic Monster seemed the perfect way to hit home the horror that we have created.”
On the pair’s partnership with Phil Ropy, a digital philanthropy card start-up, Rankin added, it’s up to all of us to raise as much awareness as possible to prevent any further irreversible damage to our marine life.”
